What is involved in the actual process of restoring a placed dental implant?
The process of restoring a placed dental implant involves several steps. First, the patient must undergo an initial consultation with Dr. Koeltl to determine if they are a good candidate for dental implants. This may include X-rays or other imaging to assess the health and density of the jawbone.
Once it is determined that a patient is a good candidate, an oral surgeon at another dental office will place the dental implant into the jawbone during a surgical procedure. After this, there will be a healing period of several months as the implant fuses with the bone in a process called osseointegration.
Once the dental implant fully integrates with the natural bone, a small connector piece called an abutment will be attached. Dr. Koeltl will attach this piece to the new restoration.
